Usually yes. Carpet and pad often protect the wood underneath, so what comes up can be in better shape than expected. The things that decide it are the thickness of wear layer left, any water damage, and how the boards were fastened. We will pull a corner and tell you what you have before you commit to anything.
Can you match new hardwood to floors already in the house?
Often, yes. Matching species and board width gets you most of the way, and sanding and finishing the new and existing floors together at the end is what makes the join disappear. Pre-finished boards installed next to an older floor are much harder to blend.
